Brunswick Opens LAX Season with Win

Brunswick — ranked No. 2 in the nation by Inside Lacrosse — opened its season with a convincing 12-7 victory against Georgetown Prep (5-2) on a cold and blustery Tuesday afternoon at Cosby Field.

The Bruins held the Hoyas at bay throughout the contest, allowing only one first-half goal and using a strong ride to give them a number of extra offensive possessions. Junior midfielder Leo Hoffman got the home team on the board after pushing the ball with his speed in transition and finding the back of the net.

Fellow classmate and attackman Will Coale, who had a big debut with five goals, netted the next three and ’Wick headed into halftime (and the warmth of the locker room) with a 4-1 lead.

It was more of the same in the third and fourth quarters, as junior Andrew Greenspan continued to dominate at Faceoff X and senior goalie Luke Schlank barred the door when the Hoyas cut into the Brunswick lead. The closest the visitors from the nation’s capital would get was 10-7 before the Bruins sealed the win with two goals midway through the final 10 minutes of action.

Brunswick will head to No. 9-ranked Deerfield on Saturday for an early-season clash between two of the top programs in the country.
