Bruins Beat Berkshire, Advance to Semis

Sean Gibbons was the last-minute hero once again for the Bruins, as the sophomore batted in a PPG from just above the crease with 18 seconds to go to spring Brunswick to a 4-3 win against Berkshire on Wednesday afternoon at Hartong in Round One of the Large School Tournament.

After a scoreless 18 minutes, the floodgates opened a bit in the second, with the Bears getting the first on a breakaway and the Bruins responding by winning shift after shift until junior captain James Shannon and classmate Lucas St. Louis (on the PP) put the home team ahead.

Berkshire tied it before 'Wick's Jake Minella tipped a big one home after a nice rush by Collin Eschricht and shot by Casey Quinson. 3-2 after two.

The visitors netted the equalizer just three minutes into the final stanza and drew two penalties as things progressed to put the Bruins on the ropes. One crossbar was all they could muster.

The Bruins got a power play of their own that would have gone to the end of regulation -- but Gibbons sent the bench (and the regulars behind the net) into an uproar, and the team ran out the last 18 seconds without much danger.

Onto the semis on Saturday against Nobles. Time at Hartong TBA.
