'Wick Faces Tough Competition at National Prep Tournament
Five Brunswick wrestlers traveled to the Showplace Arena in Upper Marlboro, Md., to compete at the National Prep Tournament. The tournament brings together the toughest wrestlers from over 100 teams nationwide. Competitors qualify by their placement in regional tournaments in New England, New York/New Jersey, Maryland, District of Columbia, Pennsylvania, the Southeast, Tennessee, Texas, and Virginia.
Captain Will Donovan, juniors Tomas Delgado and Enzo Vera, freshman Patrick O’Donahue and 8th grader Quinn McGraw all qualified for the Nat Preps with their placement at the New England tournament. Only Donovan was able to win a match, defeating his opponent from Gonzaga College High school 7-5 while losing two tough decisions to seeded wrestlers. The younger Bruins also faced ranked opponents, and while they were unable to register upsets, they earned valuable experience that will help them grow as wrestlers.
