Brunswick traveled to New Canaan on Monday afternoon for an FAA matchup against St. Luke’s, coming away victorious by a score of 62-54.
St. Luke’s started fast, forcing the Bruins to play at their pace, and built a 17-6 lead in the first eight minutes of action. Brunswick finally settled down, tightened up on defense, and pounded the ball inside to junior Jon Sigurdsson, who led the first-half rally with 10 points.
Starting the second half trailing by four, Brunswick scored six straight points including a Tristan Joseph fast-break dunk off of a steal on the other end. But the Bruins lead was short lived, as the Storm charged back with a streak of hot shooting and held a 44-37 advantage with 10 minutes left to play.
After regrouping during a time out, it was all Brunswick the rest of the way. Joseph and Malik Samms caught fire, scoring 16 and 14 points, respectively, in the second half alone. The Bruins were also sparked by Nick Burns’ energy off the bench, pulling down five key rebounds in the closing minutes.
Samms led all scorers with a career high 20 points, while Joseph added 19 and Sigurdsson had 16. Matty Augustine was a machine on the glass, grabbing a game high 12 rebounds.
