Brunswick Goes 4-1, Takes Second at FAA Duals.

Brunswick opened the day with a decisive victory over a young Greenwich Country Day squad. Patrick O’Donahue (113 lbs.), Carter Bagaria (120 lbs.), Enzo Vera (132 lbs.), Kyle Karas (138 lbs.), Kaden Saad (152 lbs.), Will MacGillivray (160 lbs.), and Captain Will Donovan (170 lbs.) all earned wins by pin. Charlie McGraw (126 lbs.) was pinned by his opponent. GCDS forfeited the remainder of the matches, with a final score of 78-6.

The Bruins won the second match of the day against a solid Hopkins team. Kyle Pagnani (145) opened the match with a pin. Kaden Saad took a forfeit at 152. Will MacGillivray and Captain Will Donovan each lost decisions to tough opponents. Wylie Ocken lost by pin at 182. Tomas Delgado took a forfeit win at 195 as did Captain Cliff Belknap at 285. Michael Neviera pinned his opponent a 220. Hopkins forfeited at 106 and 113, and earned win by pin over Carter Bagaria at 120 and a pin of Charlie McGraw at 126. Enzo Vera won a 10-5 decision at 132, while Captain Kyle Karas (138) followed with another win by pin to close out the match: Brunswick 51, Hopkins 24.

Brunswick’s winning streak stopped against Greens Farms Academy. At 152, Kaden Saad lost by decision 8-10. Will MacGillivray at 160 lost by pin, and Captain Will Donovan (170) won by decision 7-4. Wylie Ocken (182), Tomas Delgado (195), and Michael Neviera (220) were all pinned by their GFA opponents. Captain Cliff Belknap earned an overtime pin in the heavyweight bout. Quinn McGraw (106) pinned his opponent, but Patrick O’Donahue (113), Carter Bagaria (120), and Charlie McGraw (126) all lost by pin. Enzo Vera (132) and Kyle Karas (138) pinned their opponents, but Kyle Pagnani (145) lost by technical fall 17-2 to end the match with GFA on top, 50-27.

Brunswick rebounded against Rye Country Day, earning a 66-15 victory. Will MacGillivray (160) opened the match with a pin, and Captain Will Donovan followed with a win by pin as well. Wylie Ocken was pinned at 182, while Tomas Delgado took a forfeit win at 195. Michael Neviera earned a pin with less than one second remaining in the match at 220, while Captain Cliff Belknap took a forfeit at 285. Rye forfeited at 106, 113, and 120, but earned a pin over Charlie McGraw at 126 before forfeiting at 132 and 138. Kyle Pagnani earned a win when his opponent defaulted, while Kaden Saad lost a tough 5-3 decision to close out the match.
The final match of the day pitted Brunswick against a small Hamden Hall team. Only three matches were actually wrestled. Carter Bagaria lost a 6-2 decision at 120, while Enzo Vera at 132 and Captain Kyle Karas at 138 each earned first period pins. Brunswick forfeited at 126, but Hamden Hall forfeited all of the other matches to arrive at a 72-9 Brunswick win.

Next up for the Bruins is the Western New England Independent School Wrestling Association (WNEISWA) or “state” tournament to be held at Greens Farms Academy Saturday, February 12.
