The Brunswick ski team had a busy week of racing at Mount Southington, competing in qualification runs for Team Connecticut on Monday and a CISL race on Tuesday.
Individual racers Cameron Shipman, Ollie Leonard and Patch Leonard competed in part one of a two-part series to qualify for Team Connecticut on Monday. Part one of the series was a Giant Slalom Shoot-Out. Shipman (12th), O. Leonard (13th), and P. Leonard (22nd) landed in the top 30 and will move on to the Slalom Shoot-Outs to take place on Monday, February 7, at Mount Southington.
Team Connecticut, comprised of the top 12 boys in CISL, will compete against 12 other states at the Eastern High School Championships 2022 to be held in early March at Attitash Mountain, New Hampshire.
On Tuesday, Brunswick finished in closely-fought third place at a CISL race at Mount Southington. The top six racers finished with an overall time of 285.0, only 1.6 seconds behind second-place Wilton HS.
The Bruins posted some impressive individual results and stepped up their efforts given the team was down two racers. Three athletes finished in the top 10: Patch Leonard (5th), Cameron Shipman (7th), and Ollie Leonard (8th).
The freshman crew scored important points for the team. Patch Leonard lit up the hill, especially on his second run, for his season-best fifth place finish; Ollie Leonard skied strong again as a top-10 finisher; Ryan Warner (29th) cracked the top 30; and Walker Boardman (47th), who just started racing this season, moved strongly up the rankings for his season-best finish so far.
Evan Daigle (23rd) had another consistently good night, followed by teammates Lucas Pombo (53rd), Nick Weiss (56th), and Magnus O’Reilly (58th), all of whom had solid finishes.
