Brunswick donned the camo jerseys and took the ice in front of a capacity crowd of students, faculty, and friends of the program, defeating the Delbarton Green Wave by a score of 4-1 tonight at Hartong Rink.
It felt like old times with the balcony full and the swamp out in force -- and the fans were all ignited by the Bruins, who scored on the first two shifts of the game on goals by sophomores Drew DellaSalla and Sean Gibbons. Gibbons' tally came on a perfectly executed neutral zone faceoff play. Kudos to Coach St. Louis on that one.
Delbarton settled in and had plenty of chances, including a few breakaways, before the end of the first 18 minutes, but junior goalie Brendan Holahan was locked in and kept the zero on the board. He had 29 saves by the end of the night.
In the second, it took until five minutes left in the frame before the home team broke through for its third of the contest on a snipe by senior d-man Maxime Sauve, who snuck down to the backdoor and tucked a feed from DellaSalla up under the bar -- 3-0 after two.
Sophomore Luke Drury tipped home a Sauve point shot to push the lead to 4-0 midway through the third (second assist to sophomore Jake Minella) -- and Delbarton finished things off with a PPG to spoil the shutout.
The Bruins, ranked #5 in the current RPI, improved to 10-3-1 on the season and remain undefeated on Hartong ice (3-0).
