Brunswick wrestling rang in the New Year with a resounding win over a young Greenwich Country Day School squad on Friday afternoon. Wrestling for the first time in a month, the Bruins looked sharp against GCDS, who are in their first year of varsity competition.
The Bruins struck early and often. Eighth grader Quinn McGraw opened with a forfeit win at 108 lbs. Patrick O’Donahue began his varsity career with a first-period pin at 115 lbs., and Carter Bagaria earned second period pin at 122 lbs. Eighth grader Charlie McGraw was pinned by his opponent, but following that loss, the Bruins went on a pinning streak. Enzo Vera (134 lbs.), Captain Kyle Karas (140 lbs.) Kyle Pagnani (147 lbs.) all earned first minute pins. Following a forfeit win by Whip Gorman (154 lbs) in his first varsity appearance, Will MacGilllivray (162 lbs.), Captain Will Donovan (172 lbs.), and Wylie Ocken (184 lbs.) all recorded 1st period pins. Tomas Delgado (197 lbs.), Michael Neviera (222 lbs.), and Captain Cliff Belknap (287 lbs.) closed out the match with forfeit wins.
Brunswick faces the Salisbury School tomorrow at home at 2:30 p.m.
