Bruins Fall One Touchdown Short in Bowl Bid

Brunswick closed their season with yet another exciting game on Saturday, falling to Deerfield, 35-28, in the Mike Silipo Bowl.

Brunswick scored first on a 54-yard scamper up the right sideline by Chris Gaine, but the lead would be short-lived, as Deerfield registered the game’s next two scores on a short QB keeper and then on a 95-yard catch and run.

Danny Lauter connected with Ashton Winegardner for a 29-yard score to even the game at 14. The last score of the half came on a hook-and-ladder down the Deerfield sideline. 21-14 Deerfield at the half.

Deerfield scored on another QB keeper, this time from one yard out on fourth down.

Lauter scrambled out of the pocket and found Kha’lil Eason for the next score, bringing the game back to a one-score game early in the fourth quarter.

Deerfield pulled ahead 35-21 on a 15-yard touchdown run, but Eason answered back with a nifty touchdown run to close the day’s scoring at 35-28.

The Bruins got the ball back with enough time to run two offensive plays from deep in their own territory, but could not connect on a Hail Mary as time expired.

By all measures, the season was a successful one for the Bruins, as they tackled their first year of Northeast Prep Football Conference league play and came away with a 7-3 record.
