Brunswick Falls to Hotchkiss in Final Home Game

In a very good soccer match played under the lights on Cosby Field on Wednesday, Brunswick fell to Hotchkiss by a score of 2-1, ending the Bruins' win streak at five games.

The first half was scoreless.

In the 58th minute, a quickly taken free kick from Malik Samms found an open Frankie Grether on the right side, who passed the ball to captain Nico Montoni. Montoni started toward goal and was brought down in the box; he calmly converted the PK to put Brunswick up 1-0.

Hotchkiss fought back, equalizing in the 70th minute and taking the lead a few minutes later on two of its only chances of the game.

Brunswick dominated the offensive stats in the game, outshooting the Bearcats by a wide margin and taking many more corners. Samms had a blistering header at point-blank range that was denied in the first half by the goalkeeper. Will Donovan sent a shot hard and low to the left corner when the Bruins had the lead but the ball was tipped just wide.

It was a case of Hotchkiss converting its chances while Brunswick did not.

James Walker played well in goal, taking out many high balls. The defenders were solid, soaking up pressure for a vast majority of the game. The midfielders moved the ball well and created opportunities for the strikers. The Bruins played an excellent game and are extremely disappointed in the loss.

The team hopes to bounce back in the final game of the season on Saturday at Westminster.
