Soccer Finishes Weekend Homecoming Sweep

The Brunswick Varsity Soccer team completed a sweep of Homecoming Weekend matches, defeating an undermanned Cheshire Academy squad 6-0 on Saturday morning at Carroll Field.

It was a very well attended game despite the rain and windy conditions. The Bruins extended their winning streak to three games and now own a record of 9-4.

All of the scoring came in the first half. Jeffrey Ruiz found Gavin Foster open, who buried a right-footed shot in the eighth minute. Alex DeLuca's corner was headed home by John Dunn at the 22-minute mark. A minute later, Will Donovan smashed a long shot from 30 yards out that the Cheshire keeper couldn't handle. Donovan then finished a pass from Foster for the fourth goal in the 26th minute. Two minutes later, DeLuca was the beneficiary of an unselfish pass in front of goal from Donovan and tapped it in. Near the end of the half, Christian Larkin was brought down in the box; he converted the PK to complete the scoring.

With the team's regular keeper (James Walker) out injured, Malik Samms and Donovan each took a half between the pipes in the effort. Every member of the team played significant minutes and made a positive contribution to the victory.

The Bruins will now enjoy a brief respite from action before traveling to Millbrook on Wednesday.
