Brunswick (2-3) lost a tough 3-2 decision to Avon Old Farms on Wednesday afternoon on Carroll Field.
While the Bruins didn't have many scoring chances in the first half, they took advantage of the only two opportunities that presented themselves: In the 17th minute, junior striker Malik Samms won the ball at midfield on a counter attack, looked up, and deposited a shot from 40 yards out over the Avon goalkeeper’s head.
Samms played a part in the next tally, delivering a free kick from just outside the 18-yard box onto the head of junior defender Omeed Pooya, who placed it nicely into the upper left corner of the net.
In a span of 20 minutes during the second half, Avon gained momentum and ultimately took the lead, scoring goals in the 69th, 78th, and 89th minutes.
Despite the score-line, senior GK James Walker had a good match — playing confidently in his box and making 11 saves on the day. In front of him with notable performances included seniors John Dunn and Frankie Grether, and first-year student Ollie Leonard.
Brunswick will travel to the Frederick Gunn School on Saturday for a 2 p.m. contest.
