Bruins Drop Season Opener on Gridiron

Opening the 2021 campaign on the road at the Hun School of Princeton, the Bruins were somewhat unsure what to expect from the hosts, as this was the first ever meeting between the teams. Hun found success on the ground in the second half and the Bruins dropped the opener 31-14. It was a physical and competitive game from start to finish.

Danny Lauter connected with Jason Agudelo on a post route on the first drive to open the scoring. Wells Faulstich converted on the PAT and the Bruins enjoyed a 7-0 lead for a fair amount of the first quarter. 

Hun answered late in the quarter, capping a long drive with a rushing touchdown. 

There was not much offensive action in the second quarter, but with one minute left in the half, Hun nailed a field goal to take a 10-7 lead into the break. 

Hun figured out how to utilize its size advantage to keep the Bruin defense on the field in the second half, and the Hun QB extended plays on a few key third and fourth downs. In addition to the time of possession advantage, Hun scored the next two touchdowns.

With the score at 28-7 in the mid-fourth quarter, Chris Gaine broke a long run down the left sideline to get inside the Hun 10-yard line. Kha’lil Eason broke through the line for a rushing touchdown two plays later to close the gap to 24-14 with six minutes left in the game. 

Unfortunately for the Bruins, Hun mounted another drive that was punctuated with a play-action pass for a touchdown with just under two minutes left to play, closing the day's scoring. 

The Bruins are at home next Saturday against Suffield Academy, another first-ever matchup in the inaugural season of the New England Prep Football Conference. Kick-off is at 4 p.m. on Cosby Field.
