Fielding an all-underclassmen lineup for the first time in memory, a quintet of 'Wick sophomores averaged an impressive 72.2 in winning the inaugural Hornet Invitational Tournament by nine strokes over host Hamden Hall at New Haven Country Club Monday.
Once again 'Wick's talent and depth were the difference-makers. Led by Sam O'Hara's one-under-par 69, followed by Christian Close and Henry Devaney with 72 apiece, Harry Bonomo (73), and Andrew Stickel (75), the Bruins overcame scores of 68 and 69 at the top of the Hornets' lineup, as well as a mid-round 90-minute rain delay, to take home the trophy.
'Wick now breaks for graduation before finishing its 2021 campaign by traveling to the Country Club of New Canaan to take on St. Luke's Thursday and then closing out the season at Farmington Woods Golf Club as the guest of Avon Old Farms on Saturday.
