Hockey Advances to Tourney Semifinals

Brunswick rolled past Milton Academy in a quarterfinal game in the NEPSIHA Martin/Earl (Large School) Tournament on Wednesday, 7-1. Following the dominant win on the neutral ice at Wesleyan University’s Spurrier-Snyder Rink, the second-seeded Bruins will host a semifinal game against third-seed Loomis Chaffee on Saturday, March 7, at 2:30 p.m

 

The upcoming semifinal brings the Pelicans to Hartong Rink. The two teams faced off at Loomis Chaffee back on December 5, as the Pelicans broke a 2-2 tie with a third-period goal for the 3-2 win over the Bruins. The winner of the semifinal will punch a ticket to the championship, hosted by Trinity College, on Sunday, March 8.

 

In Wednesday’s game, Brunswick netted a pair of goals late in the first period to take a 2-0 lead. Will Forrest scored a power-play tally with 1:40 remaining, while Andon Cerbone notched a tally in the final seconds of the frame, as the goal boosted Cerbone’s team lead in points to 47 (11 goals, 36 assists).

 

Michael Salandra opened the second period with two-straight goals, including a nifty breakaway score, as Forrest added the fifth goal for the Bruins in the final minute of action.

 

In the third period, Connor Sullivan netted a goal and set-up the final Brunswick tally on Beanie Richter’s power-play tally that capped the seven-goal scoring run.

 

Milton denied the Bruins of a shutout victory, as the squad from Massachusetts netted its lone goal in the final moments of the contest, as Brunswick posted the 7-1 win.

 

Of note, the last time the Bruins skated against the Mustangs was in an opening-round NEPSIHA Martin/Earl (Large School) Tournament playoff game on March 1, 2017. Brunswick scored the first six goals of the game back in 2017, en route to a 6-1 victory.
