Brunswick won its ninth-straight NEISA Class A title at Choate on Sunday, defeating Kent 7-0. The win also caps the 35-year squash coaching career for Jim Stephens, as the longtime leader of the team is retiring this year.
Top-seeded Brunswick swept each contest at the NEISA Championship by identical 7-0 scores. The Bruins dispatched two teams on Saturday, shutting-out Milton Academy in the quarterfinals and blanking Deerfield in the semifinals to reach the championship against second-ranked Kent.
It was the third time this season the unbeaten Bruins (15-0) faced and defeated Kent. Each time Brunswick bested the Lions by 7-0 scores. The Bruins bested Kent in the regular-season finale in Greenwich and in the semifinals of the U.S. High School National Championship last weekend at Trinity College. Following the semifinal victory, the Brunswick went on to win its fifth national title.
The NEISA title is the 18th for the program since 1996. Following the championship win, the Bruins were also awarded the Brandes Cup for the best high school record in New England.
In recognition of the work by Coach Stephens, the also NEISA presented Stephens with a Lifetime Achievement Award on Saturday.
In the last six seasons, the Bruins won five national titles, six New England titles and own a sterling 63-1 record, with the lone loss coming in the finals of the 2017 national championship.
