Three Wrestlers Earn All-American Honors at Nationals

Brunswick wrestlers Chris Perry, Luca Errico and Clayton Ostrover each earned All-American honors at the 2020 National Prep Wrestling Championships this weekend, hosted by Lehigh University.

Perry and Errico are both multiple All-Americans awardees, as first-time All-American Ostrover picked up career win number 100 in the senior’s final match. Ostrover finished in seventh-place at 195-lbs, while Perry (145-lbs.) was fifth and Errico finished sixth at 138-lbs.

As a team, the seven-member Brunswick contingent collected 36 team points, good for 22nd place out of 118 teams at the 85th meeting of the top prep school wrestlers from across the country.

Overall team tournament champions Wyoming Seminary unseated perennial powerhouse Blair Academy to win its first team title since 2014.

Perry is Brunswick’s first three-time wrestling All-American, as the junior earned All-American accolades the previous two seasons. Perry finished in fifth-place a year ago (126-lb.) and was seventh in 2018 (113-lb.).

This year, Perry, the fourth seed at 145, won the opening three matches to reach the semifinals. Perry dropped the semifinal bout to the top-seeded wrestler by pin-fall. Following the setback, Perry lost to the ninth-seed before a posting a 3-0 win over the fifth-ranked wrestler to finish fifth overall.

Errico is the second two-time All-American in his family, as his brother Jon Errico ’16 is also a two-time All-American for the Bruins.

Errico followed a similar path to the semifinals as Perry, winning three-straight matches. In the semifinal, the third-seeded Errico fell to the second-ranked wrestler by pin-fall. The senior then fell to the fifth-seed and later lost to the seventh-seed to finish sixth overall.

Ostrover, the eighth-seed at 195, won the first two matches, but lost to the top seed in the quarterfinal, 7-5. Ostrover worked through the consolation rounds with a 1-1 mark to reach the seventh-place match. Owning 99 career wins in the senior’s final match, Ostrover’s opponent suffered an injury before the match and defaulted to secure Ostrover’s 100th career victory. Ostrover is the eighth All-American for Brunwick.

Along with the three All-Americans, four other wrestlers represented Brunswick at the national tournament. Returning for a third time was Nick Bell, while Alex Burdick, Nadjingar Ngbokoli and William MacGillivray made their debut at the national tourney. In the opening day of the tournament, Bell went 2-2 at 152-lbs., as Burdick (182-lbs.), Ngbokoli (6th seed at 170-lbs.) and MacGillivray (126-lbs.) dropped their first two matches.
