Basketball Loses League Game

After Brunswick rallied from an 11-point, second half deficit to tie the game at 40-40 against King on Friday, the Vikings pulled away from the Bruins in the final two minutes to win the conference game, 47-43. The FAA loss drops Brunswick’s overall record to 7-11 and 3-6 in league play.
 
The Bruins held their only lead of the game at 2-0, as the Vikings (5-10, 1-7) built a 9-4 advantage at by the 9:44 mark of the first half. King kept a two-possession lead into the break, leading Brunswick 19-14 at the half.
 
King opened up an 11-point lead in the opening minutes of the second half, as the visitors led the hosts 25-14. The Bruins countered with a 10-0 run, capped by a three-pointer from Tristan Joseph at 11:50, as Brunswick trimmed the king lead to 25-24.
 
The Vikings countered with a 13-3 surge over the next 3:25 to build a 38-27 advantage with 8:25 left in the game.
 
Brunswick climbed back into the game with a 13-2 run, tying the game at 40-40 on a lay-up by Henry Caponiti off an assist by Logan Galletta at 2:12.
 
King regained the lead on its next possession on a bucket and added a made free throw on its following possession for a 43-40 lead with 1:11 remaining.
 
Brunswick missed a pair of free throws on its ensuing possession and then fouled the Vikings with 26.7 seconds left to play. King sank both shots from the stripe for a 45-40 lead. After a turnover by the Bruins, the Vikings had a chance to extend their lead with another trip to the charity stripe with 19.0 seconds left, but the visitors missed both attempts.
 
Trailing by five points, the Bruins pushed the ball into the front court and called a time-out with 13.6 on the clock. Following the break, the Bruins missed a three-pointer and maintained possession with an offensive team rebound with 6.7 seconds left. On the in-bounds pass from under the basket, Kevonne Wilder found James Sealy at the top of the key, as Sealy banked in a well-defended three-pointer with 3.7 seconds left.
 
After another Brunswick time-out, the Bruins fouled the visitors on the in-bounds pass, sending King to the line with 2.4 seconds left. The visitors made both free throws to seal the game, 47-43.
 
Joseph led the Bruins with a game-high 15 points, as Colin Mulshine added 10 and Sealy netted nine points.
