Basketball Rallies Past Wooster

Brunswick overcame a shaky start against Wooster on Friday, as the Bruins rallied for a 53-47 victory in Dann Gym. The non-league win is the third-straight victory for Brunswick (5-7).

 

Trailing 19-10 in the first half, the Bruins closed out the opening frame with a 9-3 run, as the Generals took a 22-19 lead into the break.

 

Deadlocked at 35 with 7:00 remaining in the game, Brunswick’s Khari Wilson netted a pair of free throws to give the Bruins the lead for good. After a Wooster free throw, Dan Arnold countered with a three-pointer from the wing, boosting the Brunswick lead to 40-36 at 4:52.

 

Arnold’s trey would be the final field goal for the Bruins, as the hosts scored all their points at the free throw line down the stretch. Brunswick shot an impressive 9-for-10 from the charity stripe for the remainder of the game to keep the Generals at bay.

 

Trailing 47-42, Wooster knocked down a three-pointer with 1:17 remaining to cut the deficit to 47-45.

 

Brunswick’s Logan Galletta knocked down a pair of free throws to bump the lead back to two possessions, 49-45 with 1:11 on the clock.

 

Following the two points from Galletta, the Bruins blocked a Wooster three-pointer and earned possession of the ball with just under a minute to play. James Sealy was fouled by Wooster and sank two free throws to make it a 51-45 contest with 51.4 remaining.

 

The Generals swished a pair from the line with 23.0 left in regulation, cutting the deficit to 51-47 and later fouled Sealy with 12.9 to play. Sealy secured the win with two more made shots from the line, as Wooster missed its final shot from the field on the final possession of the game.

 

Sealy led the Bruins with a career-best 20 points, scoring 12 in the second half. Galletta added a dozen while Arnold chipped in six points on a pair of second-half threes.
