Records Fall as Swim Team Beats Phillips Exeter

Brunswick battled to a 92-89 win over Phillips Exeter on Saturday at the Mehra Natatorium. Alex Hazlett set a new mark in the 200-IM for the 5-0 Bruins, while Phillips Exeter’s Andrew Beeson snapped the 400-free record set by Brunswick’s Lucas Hodgson earlier in the day.

It’s is the first time the Bruins hosted Phillips Exeter, as the Bruins now hold a 2-1 edge over the perennial New England powerhouse.

The diving component of the Brunswick team continued to improve, as Wells Faulstich and Owen Neviera posted a two-three finish in the deep end of the pool for key team points.

Trailing 8-7 to Exeter after the diving competition, the Bruins won nine of 11 swimming events and swept the relay events for the fifth time this season.

In the 200-IM, Hazlett's 1:56.47 finish broke a two-year old record. In the 100-free, Lucas Hodgson broke his own record (46.31) only to have that mark broken during the 400-free by Benson (45.84).  Benson also broke the pool record in the 100-breast with a time of 56.03.
