Brunswick broke a 3-3 tie against visiting King on Wednesday with a pair of second half goals, as the Bruins won the contest, 5-3.
Brunswick jumped out to a 2-0 lead in the opening minutes of action. A Henry Foster header on a throw-in from John Dunn gave the Bruins (7-5-1) a 1-0 lead. In the third minute of play, Kyle Raker raced ahead and sent a nice centering pass to Patrick Keller in front of the King net, as Keller deposited the ball for a 2-0 advantage.
The fast-paced scoring continued, as the Vikings trimmed the deficit to 2-1 with a low scoring shot in the fifth minute.
Just two minutes later, Raker drew a foul near the King net resulting in a penalty kick. Foster converted the PK to give the hosts a 3-1 lead.
King capped the high-scoring first half, with a tally in the 15th minute, as Brunswick headed to the break with a 3-2 lead.
In the second half, the visitors knotted the game a 3-3 in the 60th minute, converting a penalty kick tally.
Seven minutes later, Brunswick’s Michael Huber sent a long cross into the box, as Stevie Lopez converted the pass into a go-ahead goal.
Holding a 4-3 lead, Freddie Gazal added an insurance goal for the Bruins in the 85th minute. Gazal worked left across the pitch near the Vikings’ 18 and placed a lefty strike inside the far post just beyond the reach of the diving King keeper.
Brunswick goalie Eric Meindl made six saves and fought off several King crosses throughout the contest.
