Soccer Cruises to Home Win

Brunswick topped Cheshire Academy in a home match on Wednesday, beating the Cats by a 5-3 margin. The win evens the Bruins’ record at 3-3-1.

Brunswick got on the board in the sixth minute on a crisp goal by Freddy Gazal. Ahead of the scoring shot, John Dunn launched a long ball to Ryan Chinai in the corner, as Chinai sent a crosser to Gazal for the finish.

The Bruins made it a 2-0 contest in the 27th minute, as Chinai converted a penalty kick.

In the second half, Cheshire trimmed Brunswick’s lead to 2-1, as the Cats finished a cross in the 57th minute of action.

The Bruins countered on their next possession, as Kyle Raker took a few touches and hit an incredible scoring strike from 20 yards out, upper 90, on the right side.

A minute later, Raker extended the Brunswick lead to 4-1, finishing off a feed from Nico Montoni.

In the 72nd minute, Malik Samms drew a penalty kick following a solid hustle play going after a ball in the air in the Cheshire box. Chinai converted the PK for a commanding 5-1 advantage.

Despite a two-goal burst by the visitors over the next five minutes of action, the Bruins settled down to secure the win, 5-3.

Brunswick goalie Eric Meindl made four saves over the first 78 minutes of action, as Andrew Breckenridge finished in net, turning away a pair of challenging crosses over the last 12 minutes of play.

The Bruins outshot the Cats 14-6, while the visitors held a 9-4 advantage on corners.
