Soccer Ties Choate in Season-Opener

Brunswick opened the season with a 2-2 tie at Choate on Wednesday. The Bruins (0-0-1) rallied from a 2-0 deficit with two tallies in the second half to earn the draw against the Wild Boars (0-0-2).

Choate netted the lone goal of the first half on a penalty kick goal at the 40th minute.

In the second stanza, the hosts made it a 2-0 contest on a rebound goal just two minutes into the frame.

Brunswick got on the board in the 70th minute, as Aaryan Chinai earned possession near midfield and advanced the ball to Kyle Raker outside the box. Raker worked across the 18 and netted a goal on a nifty top-right strike over the Choate keeper.

Thirty seconds later, Chinai knotted the game at 2-2. Chinai took control of the ball near midfield and weaved past a pair of Wild Boars and deposited a similar 20-yarder to tie the contest.

The remaining 20 minutes was a defensive battle for the two teams playing in unseasonably warm conditions. In the final minutes of action, the Wild Boars mounted a couple of scoring chances, but were turned away by strong defensive play by the Bruins.

On the day, the Bruins outshot Choate 8-6, as the hosts held a 4-2 advantage on corner kicks. Brunswick goalie Eric Meindl made five saves and handled a number of crossing shots.

Brunswick returns to action at Taft on Saturday, September 14.
