Brunswick advanced to the FAA Semifinals after dispatching St. Luke’s in six innings in an opening round contest, 12-2. The host Bruins, the third seed, scored at least one run in each inning against the sixth-seeded Storm.
With the win, Brunswick advances to an FAA Semifinal at second-seeded Hamden Hall on Wednesday, May 15.
Leading 2-0 after two innings, the Bruins (12-5) struck for three runs in the third inning. Following three straight singles to load the bases, Jack Mathews drove in two runs with a single to right field. Later, Leo Socci made it a 5-0 contest with an RBI ground out with one out.
Brunswick added three more runs in the fourth, as Jake Hyde smashed an RBI triple to start the scoring. Jake Griffin and Danny Lauter followed with back-to-back RBI base knocks for an 8-0 advantage.
St. Luke’s scored two runs in the top of the fifth without recording a hit. Following a trio of walks to load the bases, one run crossed the plate on a hit batter and the second run was forced in by another base-on-balls.
With the Bruins leading 8-2 in the home half of the fifth, Luke Fisher drove in a run with a single to left. Later, with the bases loaded, Lauter and Marc McGuire each drove in a run on consecutive walks to give Brunswick a commanding 11-2 lead.
The Bruins automatically ended the game in the sixth inning, as Aidan Redahan scored from third base on a fielder’s choice to give the Bruins a 10-run win.
Jake Hyde led the Bruins with three RBI, while collecting a triple and a single, as Lauter, Fisher, Griffin and McGuire each added two singles apiece.
Starting pitcher Joe Henry picked up the win, as the hurler struck out nine batters and allowed two earned runs over four innings. Reliever Josh Feldman pitched 0.1 innings of relief with one strikeout, as Fisher tossed the final 1.2 innings and collected three K’s.
