On a rainy day at Cosby Field on Monday, Brunswick never trailed against Trinity-Pawling en route to a 14-10 league win. The victory boosts the Bruins, ranked seventh nationally by Under Armour/Inside Lacrosse, to 13-2 overall and 9-1 in NEW-1 conference action.
Brunswick jumped out to an early 3-0 lead, before Trinity-Pawling (6-6, 3-5) capped the scoring with a tally late in the opening frame.
The Bruins extended their lead with four-straight goals to open the second quarter. The Pride countered with a pair of goals ahead of the half-time horn, as Brunswick took a 7-3 lead into the break.
After the intermission, the two teams tallied a combined nine goals in the third quarter. After a pair of goals by Brunswick opened the second half, Trinity-Pawling scored four of the next five goals to trim the Bruins’ lead to 10-7 with just over a minute to play in the third quarter. In the final minute of the stanza, Brunswick netted a pair of goals, including a man-up marker, to bump its lead to 12-7.
The Bruins matched their game-high lead of six goals with an opening tally in the fourth quarter. The Pride netted the next two goals to set the score at 13-9, as the two teams exchanged tallies down the stretch for the 14-10 final.
Brunswick returns to action at home with a non-league game against Darien High School on Wednesday, May 15.
