Lacrosse Loses in Top 10 National Showdown

Leading seventh-ranked Brunswick in the fourth quarter by a slim, 8-7 margin, second-ranked Salisbury closed-out the game with four-straight goals en route to a 12-7 win under the lights on Cosby Field on Friday night.

Following the battle of conference unbeatens, Brunswick drops to 13-2 overall and 8-1 in NEW-1 action, while the Crimson Knights improve to 13-0 and 9-0 in league play.

In the first quarter, Coulter Mackesy got the Bruins on the board by finishing off a nice feed from Christian Ronda at 9:12.

Salisbury answered with a pair of goals in the frame, including the go-ahead tally with 48.2 seconds left.

Ronda netted the equalizer at 10:19 in the second quarter with a doorstep tally.

The visitors responded with a four-goal burst, including the final marker of the half with :01 left on the clock, giving Salisbury a 6-2 advantage heading to intermission.

Six seconds after a Crimson Knight tally at 10:14 on the third quarter, Ronda finished a feed from face-off specialist Koby Ginder, as the Bruins now trailed 7-3.

Following another Salisbury goal at 8:17, Brunswick mounted a four-goal counter that ended at the 8:10 mark of the fourth quarter. Goals by Luke Waters and Cooper Moore wrapped up the third quarter scoring.

Trailing 8-5 the final frame, the Bruins scored twice in 28 seconds. Liam Fairback’s slick dodge and finish at 8:38, was followed by a clever, point-blank wrister by Tim Saunders at 8:10 to make it an 8-7 contest.

That was as close as the Bruins would get, as Salisbury netted a transition goal at 5:10 for a 9-7 lead and three more down the stretch, including an empty-net tally for the 12-7 final.

The Bruins return to action with a home game against Trinity-Pawling on Monday, May 13.
