Baseball Wins Finale, Earn Third Seed in FAA Playoffs

Brunswick rallied from a 2-0 deficit to Greens Farms on Senior Day, posting a 7-2 home victory on Wednesday. The regular-season finale had noteworthy post-season implications, as the Bruins finished tied for second in the FAA with Hamden Hall with matching 9-3 league records.

 

Following the game, a coin-toss tie-breaker gave the Hornets the second-seed and a bye to the semifinals, while the Bruins were slotted as the third seed and will host #6 St. Luke's in a quarterfinal on Monday, May 13. 

 

In the game, after Greens Farms broke a scoreless tie in the third inning with a pair of runs, the Bruins (11-5, 9-3) knotted the game at 2-2 in the home half of the frame. With two runners on base, Luke Fisher delivered a two-run single to right-center that tied the contest.

 

In the bottom of the fourth, following a bases-loaded sacrifice fly by Aidan Redahan that plated a run, a pair of runs scored on a ball hit to the outfield by Fisher.

 

Leading 5-2, Brunswick tacked on two more runs in the sixth inning. After a lead-off double by Jack Griffin and a one-out walk to Josh Feldman, a throwing error on a ball hit by pinch-hitter Danny Lauter allowed both runners to score.

 

Holding a 7-2 lead in the seventh inning, Brunswick pitcher Reed Macolo, who entered in relief with the bases-loaded and two outs in the sixth, slayed the Dragons in the final inning to seal the victory.

 

Griffin had the lone extra-base hit, a double, for the Bruins. Leo Socci and Redahan each went 2-for-3, as Redahan drove in a run and Fisher and Lauter each added two RBI.

 

Starting pitcher Joseph Henry lasted three innings, as the hurler walked six, struck-out seven, while allowing both Greens Farms runs. Reliever Josh Feldman (1-0) earned his first Brunswick win, working 2.2 innings in relief before stepping aside for Mascolo. Feldman struck-out six, walked one and hit three batters. Mascolo picked-up the four-out save, his third save on the season, striking out a pair of batters.
