Spizzirri and Leonard Repeat as Squash All-Americans

Brunswick’s Brian Leonard and Nick Spizzirri were named All-American by US Squash for the second straight season. This past season the pair of juniors spearheaded the Bruins’ undefeated run to the program’s fourth HEAD U.S. High School Team Championship and 17th NEPSAC Class A crown.
 
Recipients are selected through two pathways: players voted on by coaches and league administrators of US Squash-accredited high school leagues or final point rankings from tournaments during the season for junior players in the U19 (top eight) and U17 (top four) divisions.
 
Both Spizzirri and Leonard earned All-American honors in 2017-18 as top-four finishers in the U17 division.
 
Spizzirri earned his second All-American honor through both pathways.  Beyond posting a fifth-place U19 finish, Spizzirri earned the votes of coaches and league administrators from the NEISA. The Greenwich resident led the Bruins as the team’s #1 seed. Spizzirri also earned All-New England honors this past season.
 
Leonard, from Harrison, N.Y., finished in sixth-place overall at U19 U.S. Junior Squash Tournaments this year to garner All-American status. For Brunswick, Leonard, the Bruins’ #2 seed, did not lose a single regular-season or post-season match. Additionally, Leonard was an All-New England selection.
 
Brunswick now boasts a trio of two-time All-Americans and five national award-winners overall. David Yacobucci ’16 was the first two-time All-American, winning accolades in 2013-14 (U17) and in 2014-15 (NEISA selection). Max Finkelstein ’18 (NEISA) and Hayes Murphy ’14 (U19) are the other All-Americans for longtime Brunswick coach Jim Stephens.
