Fairfield Prep won two of three varsity eight races against Brunswick to win the third-annual Kulaga Cup on Saturday in Bridgeport. The Kulaga Cup is awarded to the team that wins the majority of the three varsity eights races in the annual dual meet.
The Bruins dropped both the 1V race and 3V races, but picked up a win at 2V. The 3V race was won by Fairfield Prep by just 1.18 seconds over a shorter distance.
Due to water conditions and water traffic, the 3V and 4V boat races were shorter than the 1,400-meter races by the 1V and 2V boats.
Brunswick won the first two Kulaga Cup events, which was inaugurated in 2017 in memory of Fairfield Prep’s Joey Kulaga ‘19.
The Bruins will race again at the St. John’s Invitational on Sunday, May 5.
