Brunswick jumped out to a 7-0 lead against Hotchkiss and cruised to a 14-6 road win over the Bearcats on Friday night. The NEW-1 conference win sets the Bruins overall record at 9-0 and 5-0 in league play.
Brunswick, currently ranked fourth in the latest Under Armour/Inside Lacrosse national poll, will face sixth-ranked Hill Academy (8-1) on Cosby Field on Wednesday, April 24, at 4:00 p.m. Last year, the two teams, both ranked in the top five nationally, played a Wednesday night game on Cosby Field in front of a capacity crowd. In 2018, the Bruins topped the Pride in the first-ever meeting of the two schools by a score of 14-8.
Against Hotchkiss, Brunswick scored four-straight goals to open the first quarter. Michael Gottlieb netted two goals, as Coulter Mackesy scored one goal and assisted on Gottlieb’s first tally of the frame.
In the second quarter, Lucas Delgado made it a 5-0 lead for the Bruins with a goal off an assist from Christian Ronda. Ronda followed with a goal, as Michael Mauricio finished off a pass from Mackesy to build a 7-0 lead.
Hotchkiss halted the scoring streak with a late goal, as the Bruins took a 7-1 lead into the half.
Gottlieb netted his third goal of the contest to open the third quarter. After a Hotchkiss marker set the score at 8-2, Mauricio sandwiched two tallies around a Bearcat goal, as Brunswick built a 10-3 lead heading into the fourth quarter.
The Bruins added four-straight goals to open the fourth stanza, as Tucker Slattery, Henry Caponiti, Charles Shaffer and Tim Saunders all scored a goal to build an 11-goal lead.
Trailing 14-3, the Bearcats scored a trio of late goals for the 14-6 final.
