Sailing Finishes Sixth at NESSA Championship

Brunswick sailed to a sixth-place finish at the NESSA Championship at Hotchkiss on Sunday. The Bruins, ranked first in New England, earned a bid to the 15-team fleet racing event after winning a qualifier on Saturday.

Racing FJ’s in the A-Division, Will George and William Michels each skippered four of the eight races, as Carlos Flores combined with George and Michels as crew. Overall, the Bruins posted four top-six finishes in the A-Division, collecting 57 points.
 
Sailing 420’s in B-Division action, Leyton Borcherding skippered all eight races with Chris Ramos as crew. The tandem, won a pair of races and added three more top-five results en route to 60 team points.
 
Combined, the Bruins had 117 points, two points behind fifth-place North Kingstown. Hotchkiss finished first overall with 61 points, as St. George’s School was second (64) and Tabor Academy finished third with 96 points. The top three from the NESSA Championship will advance to nationals in May.
 
Brunswick returns to team racing at the Indian Harbor Yacht Club on Wednesday, April 17.
