Baseball Loses First Game of the Season

Brunswick dropped a 5-0 decision to FAA foe Hamden Hall on Friday. The road loss was the first setback this season for the Bruins (4-1,2-1).
 
In the opeing innings of a 0-0 game, Brunswick stranded runners in scoring position in the top of the second and third inning.
 
The Hornets broke the scoreless tie with three runs in the bottom of the third inning.
 
Trailing 3-0 in the fifth, the Bruins got the leadoff batter on base, as Marc McGuire singled and advanced to second on an error. On a failed pickoff play at second base by the Hornets, McGuire advance to third but was thrown out at home by the centerfielder.
 
In the home half of the fifth, Hamden Hall earned some breathing room by scoring two insurance runs for a 5-0 lead.
 
Aidan Redahan smacked his second single of the day to open the sixth inning. A pair of groundouts advanced Redahan to third base, but a fly-out ended the scoring threat.
 
Reed Mascolo (1-1) took the loss for Brunswick, tossing six innings, striking out eight while allowing five earned runs.
 
Redahan’s two singles led the Bruins at the plate, as McGuire and Cole Mascolo had the two other hits for Brunswick on the day.
 
The Bruins return to action with a non-league game at Salesian on Saturday, April 13.
