Brunswick picked up a Varsity Eight win at a U.S. National Team Training Center in Mercer Lake in New Jersey. In the inaugural race of the spring season, the Bruins 1V bested both Lawrenceville and the Mountain Lakes Rowing Club over the 1,500-meter course.
Brunswick won its 1V race by 1.1 seconds over the Big Red and by 3.9 seconds over Mountain Lakes RC.
The Brunswick Varsity Eight's coxswain, Matthew Pillari, held a tight line in somewhat difficult cross-tailwind conditions, as his experienced crew rowed cleanly and under control to secure the win.
Brunswick's Second Varsity Eight came in second to Lawrenceville by about two-thirds of a boat length, as the Bruins bested Mountain Lakes by about three boat lengths. Similarly, the Brunswick Freshmen Eight fell to their peers from Lawrenceville by just over a boat length, while besting the Mountain Lakes and another Lawrenceville entry by wide margins.
Brunswick returns to action on Saturday, April 6, on Lake Quinsigamond in Massachusetts.
