In Brunswick’s season-opener, the Bruins rolled past visiting William Penn Charter by a 13-2 margin on Friday on Cosby Field. Eight different players scored goals for Brunswick, as the Bruins built a commanding 12-0 advantage after three quarters.
The Bruins, ranked #11 in the latest Under Armour/Inside Lacrosse national poll, held a 2-0 lead after one quarter. Brody Firestein opened the 2019 season with a goal off a behind-the-crease feed from Coulter Mackesy at 4:21. Sixteen seconds later, Jeffrey Matthews followed with a tally set-up by Christian Ronda, giving Brunswick a 2-0 advantage.
In the second quarter, the Bruins posted six goals by six different players, as Firestein and Mauricio each netted their second goals of the season.
Holding an 8-0 lead to start the third quarter, Brunswick tacked on four more goals. Mackesy started the scoring burst with a goal off a feed from AJ Delgado at 10:53. Christian Ronda and Michael Gottlieb followed with solo markers, as Mauricio finished the frame with a goal off a turnover forced in Quaker territory with 3:31 remaining.
In the fourth quarter, Henry Caponiti capped the Brunswick scoring with a goal at 9:37, giving the hosts a 13-0 lead.
Penn Charter netted a pair of goals in the final minutes of the contest, setting the final score at 13-2.
Christian Barnard (eight saves) played the first three quarters in goal for the Bruins, as Will Prout (four saves) minded the Brunswick net in the fourth quarter.
Koby Ginder won 9/14 faceoffs for the Bruins, while Blake Burchill went 4/5 from the face-off X.
