Brunswick hit the water with a competitive swimming and diving team for the first time in 2012-13.
With the completion of the Mehra Natatorium in 2014, the program is on track to becoming a consistent contender at the New England Championships in the New England prep league.
Coach Aaron Montgomery and his staff saw the team improve dramatically in 2014, coming in seventh at the chamionship event in only the program's third season of competition. The team's training has paid off as individual and team records continue to be set.
Brunswick swimmers set 10 school records, while several Bruins earned All-American status at the 117th Eastern Interscholastic Swimming & Diving Championships held at Franklin & Marshall College in Lancaster, Pa. The Bruins finished seventh out of 45 schools at the two-day event that concluded on Saturday.
With a split squad racing at the Eastern Championships in Pennsylvania, the remaining Bruins finished second to Hopkins at the FAA Championship and eighth overall at the WNEPSSA, held at Hopkins on Saturday.
Brunswick topped Westminster (52-35) and Northfield Mount Hermon (47-36), capping its dual-meet season with an impressive 10-1 record. The Bruins will prepare for the post-season, including the New England Championships on March 4 at Hotchkiss.
Brunswick’s undefeated season was ended by a talented Suffield Academy squad at Suffield on Saturday, 99-86. While Suffield’s dominating diving trio gave the hosts an 11-point advantage, the Bruins (7-1) were just two points behind the Tigers in the remaining swimming events, winning three races.
