Upper Schoolers Fan Out To Serve Community

Brunswick Upper School students fanned out to organizations across Fairfield and Westchester counties to help those in need on Community Service Day on Friday, April 25.

More than 400 boys stepped out of the classroom and spent the morning hours at over a dozen locations – including Person to Person, Neighbor to Neighbor, Filling in the Blanks, Abilis, Mothers for Others, and the American Red Cross.

Others visited town parks and community gardens in Greenwich and Pound Ridge to put their hands to work, while many also participated in the Live Like Luke beach clean-up at Tod’s Point on Saturday.

Upper School science teacher and community service director Amy Kerekes organized the activities.

“It’s so important for our boys to take time out of their lives to serve the community and to serve others, especially those who are less fortunate,” Kerekes said. “As they volunteer, the boys often gain a newfound perspective on life – and build connections with organizations and people that last for many years to come.

“Overall, the day was a huge success.”
