Two Brunswick Seniors Named National Merit Semifinalists

Two Brunswick seniors — Lucio Costantini and George Wang — have been named Semifinalists in the 72nd annual National Merit Scholarship Program.

The academically talented Upper School boys have earned the opportunity to continue in the competition for National Merit Scholarships.

“Being named a National Merit Semifinalist is a tremendous accomplishment and a reflection of the hard work, intellectual curiosity, and commitment to academic excellence that Lucio and George have demonstrated throughout their time at Brunswick,” Head of School Thomas W. Philip said.

“We are proud to celebrate this distinction with them and grateful for the ways their accomplishments contribute to the academic life and culture of our school community.”

More than one million students from thousands of high schools across the country entered the 2027 National Merit Scholarship Program by taking the 2025 Preliminary SAT/National Merit Scholarship Qualifying Test (PSAT/NMSQT), which served as the initial screening of program entrants. Semifinalists represent less than one percent of U.S. high school seniors and include the highest-scoring entrants in each state.

More than 16,000 students nationwide were named Semifinalists, and those who meet the program’s requirements will have the opportunity to advance to the Finalist level. National Merit Scholarship winners will be selected from among the Finalists and announced in the spring.
