October Sunshine Warms Up Homecoming 2024

Deep blue skies and bright sunshine set the stage for another terrific Homecoming, with scores of alumni, students, parents, and friends flocking to Edwards Campus to celebrate a weekend’s worth of thrilling athletic contests, joyful connection, and heartfelt reunions for classes ending in four and nine.

For 23 years, the Alumni Golf Outing has served as the unofficial kick-off to Homecoming, and this year was no exception as a sold-out crowd of foursomes turned up on Friday morning under clear skies and perfect fall weather to hit the links at GlenArbor Golf Club.

Beautiful conditions continued for Friday evening, when the varsity soccer team hosted St. Luke’s under the lights of Robert L. Cosby Field and thrilled revelers with an electrifying 2-0 victory. Alumni and family cheered the victory from the sidelines, and the evening was capped by a spectacular fireworks display to herald the official start of Homecoming Weekend.

Saturday featured activities for everyone. The 6th annual Horizons Cars & Coffee event drew enthusiasts to the Lower School in the morning, while Bear Fair, the can’t-miss carnival of the fall, attracted throngs of excited Pre and Lower School boys and their families to Burke Field House.

Homecoming always brings excitement to Brunswick water polo, but this time the team was split between two locations — Hamden Hall and Brunswick.  The underclassmen traveled north to face Hamden Hall and prevailed with a 20-16 victory.

Water polo also faced the New York Athletic Club, which is widely known for fielding teams made up of top former Division I players as well as Olympians and world champions. NYAC brought its highly competitive squad to Mehra Natatorium for a tough, physical match and despite a hard-fought effort, the Bruins fell short and NYAC swam away with an 11-8 victory.

Also on Saturday, Brunswick hosted Phillips Andover on Cosby Field and made the alumni in attendance proud with a 42-7 win.

Later in the evening, alumni from class years ending in four and nine fanned out to private celebrations at homes and gathering places all over Greenwich.

Just as it does every year, Homecoming 2024 delivered a weekend of fun and connection for the entire ’Wick community.
