The Brunswick community gathered on Tuesday, June 2, for Closing Exercises — an annual event that concludes the school year and honors students and faculty for outstanding accomplishments in the classroom, on the athletic fields, and throughout the community.

“We’re here to celebrate another incredibly successful Brunswick School year,” Head of School Tom Philip said. “As I say each year, summer is about 45 minutes away!”

Philip noted that the year ends just as it begins, with a special gathering in Dann Gymnasium, and that all those in the audience are different people than they were just nine months ago in September. 

“We’ve grown, we’ve learned new things, we’ve met new people, we’ve had challenges we’ve overcome, and we’re proud of it,” he said. “We all should be grateful for our individual and collective successes.

“Institutions, Brunswick included, are only great because of their people,” he continued. “More than anything, the people in front of me make Brunswick School what it is. When you are at your best, the school is at its best.”
 
Philip also asked students to think about the teachers, advisors, coaches, kitchen staff, maintenance staff, and administrators who have helped them make the year so rewarding.
 
The event concluded with the traditional “Moving Up” Ceremony, as eighth graders were welcomed to the Upper School and juniors rose to become the senior class.
