The Brunswick community gathered on Tuesday, June 3, for Closing Exercises — an annual event that concludes the school year and honors students and faculty for outstanding accomplishments in the classroom, on the athletic fields, and throughout the community.
“Here we are, celebrating the successful conclusion of another Brunswick School year,” Head of School Tom Philip said. “Boys, members of the faculty and staff, summer is about an hour away!”
Philip noted that the year ends just as it begins, with a special gathering in Dann Gymnasium. He said the individual and collective successes that have ensued over the course of the 2024-25 school year — the academic achievements, artistic presentations, athletic victories, the lessons learned from experiences both joyful and challenging — all serve to make this year one to remember.
“We are, none of us, the same person we were when we were last in this room in September,” he told the crowd. “We are different. We have looked at new things for the first time and looked at old things in a new light. We have grown.”
Philip asked the community to take a minute to remember the teachers, advisors, coaches, kitchen staff, maintenance staff, and administrators who have in “big ways and small” made for a successful year.
The event concluded with the traditional “Moving Up” Ceremony, as eighth-grade students were welcomed to the Upper School and juniors rose to become the senior class.
