’Wick alumnus Aaron Sabato — a member of the Class of 2018 and a rising junior at the University of North Carolina — was selected by the Minnesota Twins with the 27th pick in the first round of the Major League Baseball Draft on Wednesday, June 11.
Sabato, a first baseman for the Tar Heels, hit .343 with 18 home runs and earned national freshman of the year honors in 2019. In 19 games this season, before the coronavirus shut down sports, he batted .292 with seven home runs and 18 RBI.
While at Brunswick, Sabato, who was ranked the No. 2 shortstop and No. 4 player in New York and No. 35 shortstop in the country by Perfect Game, hit .560 with 14 home runs in 22 games as a senior and helped the Bruins to three FAA tournament championships during his high-school career. He was also a 2017 Perfect Game Underclassmen second-team All-America.
Sabato is majoring in communication studies at UNC.
