Lower School Courses

Welcome to Brunswick School’s Summer Session for Lower School students! Offerings for boys entering grades 1-4 will run from June 8-June 19 for Session I. Preparatory and enrichment classes are available in Math, Reading, Writing, Science, Computer Science, Technology, Spanish, Shop, and the Arts. Please see each course description for additional details, timing, and dates. Registration is open to the public, and as class sizes are limited, enrollment will be on a first-come, first-served basis.

For students also enrolling in one of the Brunswick Sports Camps offerings or Summer Session offerings in the afternoon, lunch will be provided.

Please note that all Lower School classes will be held at 1252 King Street.

Arts — Harry Potter Camp

Description:  Year 5 of Hogwarts Greenwich is here! Our wizards will explore new activities that will challenge their knowledge, as well as partake in tried and true classes such as potion making, spells, dueling,care of magical creatures,storytelling, crafting and of course, quidditch! We will work with our house and collaborate with other houses as we search for horcruxes and compete in a Triwizard tournament.

Description:  Have you ever wanted to put on a show? Well this summer is your chance! We will use each afternoon to build a production from the roots up- culminating in a final show where all will be invited! In addition to being part of a stellar cast, students will work on set design and construction, prop building, costume design, advertising and theater games. It will be a romping good time structured for learning and confidence building

Description:  Unlock your child’s self-reliance, creativity, curiosity, and confidence through the power of unstructured play. Drawing on curricular ideas from Let Grow—the well-known nonprofit co-founded by Jonathan Haidt and Lenore Skenazy—boys will build executive functioning and resourcefulness while bonding, practicing self-control, learning compromise, and experiencing the joy of free play. Through engaging camp activities and daily, student-generated independence projects at home, boys will discover their agency and strengthen their problem-solving skills.

We are so fortunate here at Brunswick to have so much access to nature all around us and everyday will be a brand new adventure exploring the great outdoors. As a matter of fact, it has been proven that exposing young kids to the natural world can truly spark more imaginative play and lead students to be healthier and less stressed overall. From nature scavenger hunts, outdoor crafts using natural materials, exploring Brunswick’s incredible outdoor classroom and our lovely cross-country trails right here on campus, these are just some of the amazing activities your son will get to experience during our short 2 weeks together! We promise the boys will become completely enriched with nature and art while also enjoying the hot summer sunshine!

Description:  Does your son have First Grade jitters or can he hardly wait to join the big boys at the Lower School? If so, this is the camp for you. Bridge Camp will allow your son the opportunity to get a taste of the Specials he will be a part of in First Grade, including art, music, library, and of course gym. Students will also have a chance to participate in learning activities. In addition, the boys will enjoy getting familiar with our amazing Lower School playground and learn how to navigate the cafeteria for lunch (lunch is included). Your son will experience all the Lower School has to offer as he crosses over the BRIDGE into First Grade.

Description:  Does your son like to write? In this class we will explore pourquoi’s, Tall-Tales, Fractured Fairy Tales, and Poetry. We will read stories together and then spend time brainstorming common characteristics of each type of writing. We will begin each new topic by writing a group story/poem, and then they will work independently on a story of their own. A small group will enable them to share ideas and work together. After completion, we will be sharing our writing with our group.
