Since the founding of the Brunswick sailing team in 1994, the program has produced countless all-star sailors, national champions, and world champions.
The team trains together every fall with the varsity sailing team entering its most competitive season in the spring – typically averaging 10 to 12 boys in its fleet of six Zim E420s. High school sailing is divided into three main disciplines: single-handed sailing, double handed fleet racing, and double handed team racing. The Bruins' best finish at a high school national championship has been second overall.
Over the last number of years, the team's goal has been to qualify in New England among the top two or three schools to arrive at national championships. All in all, the Bruins have been very consistent in this pursuit.
The team trains out of Indian Harbor Yacht Club in Greenwich, Connecticut. Between weekday team races, weekend fleet races, team race events, and the championship events that the program hosts, the Greenwich area hosts more teams and runs more races and regattas than any other area in the country.
