About the Team
About the Team
The Brunswick School football program has a storied tradition of excellence dating back to 1902. Competing in the highly competitive Class “A” New England Prep School Athletic Conference (NEPSAC), Brunswick plays a rigorous nine-game schedule each season, facing many of the top programs in the region.
Since 1989, Brunswick football has led all NEPSAC programs in bowl game appearances, competing in 16 NEPSAC Bowl Games and capturing 10 championships. Title years include 2022, 2019, 2015, 2014, 2005, 2004, 2003, 1998, 1992, and 1989. Most recently, the Bruins won their first-ever Top Bowl (Class A) New England Championship in 2022, defeating Choate Rosemary Hall.
Since 2018, Brunswick has achieved an impressive 46-14 (.77) overall record, with five bowl game appearances and two bowl victories. Under the leadership of Head Coach Wayne McGillicuddy, the program has been 22-6 (.79). In 2024, the team reached the top New England Bowl Game for the second time in the past three seasons.
Coach McGillicuddy joined Brunswick football in 2020 and was appointed head coach in 2022. He brings a wealth of experience from both the collegiate and prep levels, having previously coached at Florida Atlantic University (FBS), Westfield State University (D3 - MASCAC), Wesleyan University (D3 - NESCAC), and St. Thomas More (NEPSAC).
Program Philosophy
Brunswick football is built on the values of development, brotherhood, and high standards. Every student-athlete in grades 10–12 is a member of the varsity program. All players dress and travel for every varsity game, and individual playing time at the varsity level determines participation in the following week’s JV game. This structure ensures that players are developed directly by varsity coaches and fully immersed in the culture and traditions of Brunswick football.
In addition, our varsity coaches will attend freshman practices at least once a week to ensure continuity in coaching, language, and player development across all levels. This hands-on approach allows younger players to receive early mentorship and instruction from the same coaches who lead the varsity program, reinforcing a unified system and preparing them for future success within the program.
College Placement
One of the cornerstones of the program is a strong emphasis on college placement and student-athlete development. Coach McGillicuddy works closely with Brunswick’s College Placement Team to guide families through the recruiting process with honest evaluations, transparent communication, and long-term support.
In just the past eight years, 72 Brunswick football players have continued their playing careers at the collegiate level:
- 14 at FBS Division I
- 24 at FCS Division I
- 4 at Division II
- 28 at Division III
- 2 at Army West Point for Sprint Football
