Water Polo Wins Pair of NEPSWPA Games

Brunswick opened NEPSWPA league play Saturday at Mehra Natatorium, earning a pair of decisive victories over Deerfield Academy and Williston Northampton.

The Bruins opened the day with a 22-7 victory over Deerfield. After the Big Green took an early 1-0 lead, Brunswick responded with 10 unanswered goals in the opening quarter to take control. The lead grew to 14-2 at halftime and 19-5 after three quarters.

Brunswick turned the game over to a full lineup of freshmen in the fourth quarter, providing valuable varsity experience for the youngest players. Jamie Cook ’30, Maverick Wood ’30, and Connor Galbally ’30 each scored, while Oliver Zubko ’30 anchored the defense in goal with 11 saves in the second half.

Max Pacifico ’29 led the Bruins with five goals, while Chris Myott ’29 and Landon Brilliant ’29 added four apiece. Nico Zubko ’28 and Mateo Menacho each scored twice, with Charlie Carroll, Cook, Wood, and Galbally also finding the net.

Two hours later, Brunswick returned to the pool and cruised to a 21-1 victory over Williston Northampton. Despite losing the opening swim-off, the Bruins quickly took control with eight unanswered goals in the first quarter.

Brunswick’s defense created a steady stream of counterattacking opportunities, while crisp passing and strong communication led to scoring chances throughout the lineup. The Bruins continued to spread the offense around, with 13 different players finding the back of the net.

Freshmen again received significant playing time as Brunswick built its lead. Eamon Lavin ’29 and Oliver Zubko ’30 split time evenly in goal, combining for eight saves while allowing just one goal.

The two victories gave Brunswick a strong start to NEPSWPA league play. The Bruins will travel to Pennsylvania this weekend for the Beast of the East Tournament.
