Brunswick kicked off its water polo season on Saturday with a trip to Northampton, Massachusetts, for a pair of NEPSAC games against Deerfield Academy and Williston Northampton – returning home with two victories.
The first match saw Brunswick's lockdown defense stifle Deerfield. By the end of the first quarter, Brunswick held a commanding 9-0 lead. Deerfield, traditionally a strong program, fielded a younger team but showcased resilience throughout the contest. Brunswick's offensive efforts were led by Peter Saunders ’27 and Jackson Shaw ‘28, with the rest of the goals distributed among 10 other players. The team impressed with creative shots, unselfish passing, and a solid defensive performance. Final score: 24-4, Brunswick.
With only 15 minutes of rest before facing host Williston Northampton, Brunswick surged to another early lead, closing the first quarter up 9-2. The Wildcats fought back with tenacity, matching Brunswick’s physical play. Callum Walker ’26 and Martin Robredo ’27 led the scoring, while the team continued to emphasize selfless play, allowing 11 other players to score. Final score: 25-8, Brunswick.
Brunswick will next travel to Barcelona, Spain, on Tuesday, September 17, for the Next Generation Cup, where they will face some of the world’s best 18-and-under teams.
