Brunswick earned its first home win of the varsity soccer season, beating Frederick Gunn, 2-1, on Carroll Field on Saturday afternoon.
With rain and strong winds at kickoff, both teams took a moment to get settled in and adjust to the conditions.
Theo Perkins ‘25 scored the first goal of the match in the 20th minute; he collected a Gunn clearance near midfield and then took two big touches past defenders before depositing a strike to the bottom left corner of the net.
That lead only last two minutes, as Gunn responded with a goal of its own past junior GK Josh Katz (four saves), converting a 1-v-1 from the right side of the box.
The game winner came just six minutes into the second half when Patrick O’Donohue was fouled after beating two defenders near the left end line. While it appeared the foul occurred inside the box, the ball was placed just outside the 18 — not an issue for O’Donohue, who blasted the shot right side-netting high past the Gunn GK.
With the wind in their favor, the visitors put constant pressure on Brunswick's midfield and defensive line for the remainder of the match. Big credit to Ollie Leonard '25, Sebi Medina '25, Ray Foley '27, Declan Murray '26, and Justo Iraola '27 for solid play in the back to keep the scoreline at 2-1. Seniors Will Higgs and Theo Perkins, along with junior Fernando Uyaguari, also put in solid shifts for the Bruins.
Brunswick returns to action next Saturday at Kent.
