Soccer Shuts Out GCDS, Winning Streak Reaches Six Games

Brunswick improved its winning streak to six games on Wednesday, beating local rival GCDS by a score of 2-0 on Carroll Field.

The first tally came in the 17th minute, starting with Patrick O'Donohue '25 claiming a ball near midfield and playing it down the right sideline for Matias DeBono '26 to track; DeBono took one touch before laying it off for a streaking O'Donohue in the corner of the box, who was promptly fouled by a GCDS defender. Having earned the PK himself, O'Donohue confidently deposited it past the GK for the ultimate game-winner.

The Bruins added to the lead in the 32nd minute, as senior winger Agustine Grether intercepted a pass near midfield and quickly played a through-ball to classmate Will Higgs toward goal — Higgs ran onto the ball and swifty placed it in the back of the net.

While that capped scoring for the day, there were many exciting moments and opportunities for Brunswick to build on its lead in the second half, as both O'Donohue and DeBono, along John Buttafuoco '25 and Marcus Matitia '25, all had chances on goal thwarted by the GCDS goalkeeper.

Junior Josh Katz got the complete-game shutout and was active between the pipes, coming out for crosses and clearing away any long passes over the top from the GCDS midfield. Also playing a part in 'Wick's fourth consecutive shutout were defenders Ollie Leonard '25, Ray Foley '25, Sebi Medina '25, Charlie Perkins '26, Judah Viders '27, and Ferdi Hood '28.

Additional shoutouts go to Iggy Miranda '25, Theo Perkins '25, and Fernando Uyaguari '26 for solid play in the midfield.

Now 7-4-1 for the season, the Bruins are gearing up for an overnight trip this weekend — taking on Hopkins in New Haven on Friday, followed by a midday tilt at Berkshire School on Saturday.
