Brunswick sent two scullers to the USRowing Northeast Youth Championships in Lowell, Mass. George Kapp '26 won the U17 single event and Reed Eddy '25 took 4th in the U19 single event. Both boys earned bids to the USRowing Youth National Championships in Sarasota, Fla., by placing top 4 in their respective events at this regional qualifier.
Kapp dominated the field in both Saturday's U17 1x Time Trial and again in Sunday's Final. Kapp won the Final by an impressive margin of more than 54 seconds. The sophomore showed his technical prowess in the sculling boat after spending the spring season sweeping in 7-seat of the Brunswick Varsity Eight. Kapp continued his tremendous year in the sport – in the fall, he was the youngest competitor to earn a medal in any of the Junior categories at the Head of the Charles Regatta and now he is headed to Nationals in the single.
Eddy took 2nd place amongst a field of 18 scullers in Saturday's U19 1x Time Trial. The Brunswick junior then took 3rd in his Semi-Final, putting him through into the 6-boat Final on Sunday. Eddy, who has spent the spring in 6-seat of Brunswick's Varsity Eight, showed his sculling skills this weekend, taking 4th in a competitive field in the Final. Eddy continues his tremendous junior year which also saw him earn a silver medal at the Head of the Charles Regatta in the fall and has earned him an invitation to the United States Under 19 National Team Selection Camp this coming July in Chula Vista, California.
Both scullers will be racing in the eight at the New England Interscholastic Rowing Association Championship Regatta next weekend in Worcester, Mass. They will then finish the season at the USRowing Youth National Championships in Sarasota, Fla., in early June.
