Kapp Wins National Championship

Brunswick brought two single scullers to the 2024 USRowing Youth National Championships in Sarasota, FL.

George Kapp '26 became Brunswick's first-ever National Champion in winning the U17 single event by open water. Kapp dominated Thursday's Time Trial, cruised through Friday's Semifinal, and then led wire-to-wire for a convincing victory in the A Final on Sunday.

Kapp won the final by over 7 seconds, covering the 2000m course at Nathan Benderson Park (site of the 2017 World Championships) in a time of 7:31.43. Kapp, who was given the Most Improved Award at the team's Varsity Dinner this past week, closes out a tremendous sophomore campaign in which he won medals at major regattas in both sweep and sculling events.

Reed Eddy '25, another strong sweep rower who also sculls, took 5th place in the B Final. Competing against 30 of the very best scullers in the country, Eddy had a solid Time Trial on Thursday, putting him through to the A/B Semifinals. In his Friday Semifinal, Eddy just missed out on the A Final by 1.02 seconds. Eddy's performance in the B Final placed him at 13th in the country.
